Happy New Year Flower Lovers!
This time last year, I had no flower farm. Only a dream of making it happen.
Having never farmed in my life, or even gardened for that matter, all I had under my belt was my first year of growing vegetables - which went well if you discount the fact that I went on vacation before planting all my seedlings and came back to find them all kaput. That's dead in German...
So, I guess thank goodness I had the audacity to start a flower farm. The people I've met, through selling flowers at the farmers market, sharing my journey on instagram, and hosting in-person workshops has been so soul filling. I don't think I would have been able to feel so connected with this community without starting this journey.
I can't believe it's only been a year since it all started! It feels like so much has happened. Last year in January, I was deep into a flower farming intensive course, reading everyday about how to even do this. Learning about regenerative farming and figuring out how I was going to start a flower field by our last frost in mid May. I'd like this to be a reminder that if you have a passion (or obsession, like me), you'll learn 10x faster and you'll be surprised at how much you can accomplish in such a short time.
With the new year starting, I'm wondering: where do I want to be this year? What do I want to focus on and work on? I encourage you to ask yourself the same questions. Maybe you'd like to try your hand at a new creative hobby? Gardening? Photography? Pottery? Or visit some place new? I find that when we consciously think about what we’d like to make happen, it automatically puts you in the right direction.
For me, here are a few goals I'd like to make happen in 2023:
-Transform the side garage into a flower studio.
-Host more workshops, not only around flower arranging but other crafts like natural dyes, wreath making, making flower crowns, etc...
-Do more flowers for events and dinners.
-Get back to pottery on my spare time.
-Try my hand at sowing (I got a sowing machine out of nowhere! That I did not even order, and none of my friends sent it! Ha! Love when that happens!)
-Dive deeper into the art of preserving food (canning and fermenting).
-Record an online course for those who can't make the in-person events.
-Start a Youtube Chanel?
Question mark on that last one because I just miiiiight be over estimating what I can achieve. Oh well, shoot for the moon and land in the stars as they say.
And on the spirit of following what fills me up, I am releasing several workshops you can book right now! 2022’s workshops were better than I could ever have imagined and I can't wait to connect with more of you and be immersed in the beauty of flowers here at the farm in the gorgeous Hudson valley.
Take a look at the available workshops here and reserve your spot.
Limited tickets available.
I hope this list gives you some ideas and excitement about what you can do this year! I’d love to hear from you and what you’re dreaming of for the year ahead! Let me know in the comments below.
